After deliberating for two hours Monday, a Williamson County Jury found a Hamilton County man guilty of first degree murder.
Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti says 38-year-old Jack Thomas, Jr. was charged by the State’s Attorney’s office with the offense on April 21, 2015 for the murder of Michael Reed of Marion on April 20, 2015 in the 300 block of College Street in Marion.
Zanotti says Thomas shot Reed that night while Thomas was sitting in the driver’s seat of a truck. Reed was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. Thomas fled the scene and was recovered in White County by law enforcement the following day.
At the trial, Thomas asserted self-defense to justify his actions. Thomas also argued that the lesser offense of second degree murder would be applicable in the alternative.
Thomas will be sentenced on Aug. 10 in Williamson County.
