A Franklin County jury Tuesday evening found Brian Pheasant guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, Beth Pheasant, at their Christopher home on Halloween night 2016.
According to the Southern Illinoisan, the trial lasted 10 days with the jury deliberating for about two-and-a-half hours before they announced the verdict.
Pheasant was also found guilty of a firearm enhancement because the murder was committed with a gun.
Pheasant was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. It was alleged that he came home with a gun to kill his wife after finding out earlier that month that she was having an affair. According to the report, Pheasant had meant to go home to kill himself in front of his wife but shot her instead – once in the back right shoulder and again through the back of the head.
A status hearing is set for June 29 in Benton. Sentencing will be held later.
