CENTRALIA — A 32-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Friday in Marion County court to 90 days in jail for contempt of court after he reportedly cursed at the judge during his first appearance on outstanding warrants from Marion and St. Louis County, Missouri.

Larry Evans, also known as Mfalme El Bey, reportedly entered the courtroom yelling at Judge Mark Stedelin and at one point cursing the judge and saying ‘you don’t talk, when I’m talking, judge’.

Evans was eventually escorted out of the courtroom without being advised of the warrants pending against him.

In previous court appearances Evans has claimed to be a sovereign citizen, which he has said means U.S. laws do not apply to him.

He used the sovereign citizen argument in defense of his 2014 arrest for squatting at a foreclosed home on Tonti Road and causing hundreds-of-dollars in damage to the property, which he claimed was illegally taken from his sovereign group.

The Marion County warrant stemmed from a failure to appear on that 2014 case. He was also wanted on a St. Louis Missouri warrant stemming from a forgery case.
