CENTRALIA — Multiple agencies and jurisdictions are investigating the death of a 58-year-old Centralia man found dead Monday in the Kaskaskia River in Carlyle.

Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison says officers received a call around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, March 3, from a woman in the 300 block of South Pullen saying her father Robert Ingles was missing along with his truck.

After responding to the home, officers decided there was reason to enter a missing and endangered report for Robert Ingles into the system.

Atchison says Carlyle police reported finding Ingles’ truck around 2:45 a.m. Monday morning in the parking long next to the General Dean Suspension or “swinging bridge” in Carlyle.

The truck was unoccupied and a joint effort between the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Army Corps began a boat search for Ingles downstream from the General Dean Bridge. His body was found and recovered about 1,000 yards south of the bridge.

According to Clinton County Coroner Phillip Moss, Robert Ingles was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m. Monday.

Preliminary results of an autopsy Wednesday morning showed no signs of foul play but Moss says authorities are still investigating and are now awaiting the results of toxicology tests that could take between four and six weeks.

Atchison says there is no evidence at this time pointing to foul play, but all leads are being followed and if anyone has any information surrounding this case they should contact authorities.
