WAMAC — Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a mobile home on fire shortly before midnight Monday night near the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and Gilmour in Wamac.

They found a mobile home at 124 Mitchell completely engulfed in flames upon their arrival with the walls already starting to cave in.

Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to nearby structures, although a small utility shed behind the home suffered heat and some fire damage.

The Wamac police officer on duty arrived first and extinguished fire in the shed with a small fire extinguisher.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, and the Centralia 9-1-1 Call Center had received several 9-1-1 calls on the fire when it was finally noticed.
