A 15-year-old Centralia juvenile boy was charged Monday in Marion County court with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of a 13-year-old Centralia juvenile boy early Saturday morning.

An involuntary manslaughter charge means the shooting was not intentional and there was no intent to kill anyone.

Records say the 15-year-old was one of a group of acquaintances gathered at the home in the 100 block of South Pine when the shooting occurred early Saturday morning.

The 15-year-old was one of four juveniles detained by police Saturday. All four wished to have an attorney present before talking to police.

Four attorneys were assigned to the juveniles and they were questioned Monday morning.

The 15-year-old was ordered detained following questioning and will be held at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility in Benton pending his next court appearance Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be pending.

The 13-year-old victim died from his injuries at 1:10 Monday morning at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis where he was transferred following initial treatment at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was found by police on the porch of the home with a gunshot wound to the head after police received a 911 call about a shooting at the home.

The Southern Illinois Child Death Investigation Task Force is assisting the Centralia Police Department with additional investigators.
