JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 47-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail after being arrested late Wednesday morning for alleged burglary.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, officers responded to a call around 11:18 Wednesday morning in the 2000 block of Forest, where they were had been told a black man had entered the fenced-in compound and was removing property.

Upon their arrival, officers reportedly made contact with Chelaray Collins and observed stolen property lying nearby.

After further investigation, Collins was taken into custody on a charge of burglary. Collins was taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
