FAYETTE COUNTY — A Vandalia man and woman have each been charged in connection with locking three different children in a room of their home for more than 7 hours.

The couple, 34-year-old Nicholas Arndt and 34-year-old Crystal Arndt are charged in Fayette County court with three counts Class 4 felony unlawful restraint for allegedly detained three different children by locking them “in an interior room of a residence, locked from the outside of the door, nailed the window shut, and nailed a board over the window.

Crystal Arndt has been ordered to have no contact with minor children. She’s free on a $7,500 recognizance.

Bail for Nicholas Arndt has been set at $12,000 and he’s also been ordered to not have contact with minor children.

They’re both scheduled to appear in court August 8 for preliminary hearings.
