MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon City Council approved seeking bids to demolish a list of nearly 30 buildings across the city at Monday night’s meeting.
City manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says the city has about $100-thousand budget to raze buildings in this fiscal year, and the city will tear down as many of the 30 buildings as they can with that money.
Mt. Vernon mayor John Lewis says the city must keep up with tearing down blighted buildings to keep the city attractive for possible future residents.
