According to court documents, Kyle Upchurch, who is already a registered sexual predator, used an online computer service to seduce a female he believed to be a child into having sex with him and that he sent sexually explicit pictured and messages to this person.

An online group named KTS Predator Hunters set up the sting in a situation much like the televised programs designed to catch child sex predators. According to their Facebook page, they work with the local state’s attorneys. Local law enforcement are on hand to make the arrests.

Upchurch’s arrest Wednesday in the Vandalia Walmart was live-streamed on the KTS Facebook page (strong language alert) His bail has been set at $40,000 and he’s next scheduled to appear in court August 28, for a status hearing. A grand jury will take up the information next month.

He was formally charged Thursday in Fayette County court with Class 2 felony indecent solicitation of a child with the intent of committing a criminal sexual assault of what he reportedly believed was a 14-year-old girl, Class 3 felony traveling to meet a minor and Class 4 felony grooming.

Upchurch was convicted in 2013 in Cass County of Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl when he was 20.

The Upchurch arrest was the second in the area this month facilitated and live-streamed by KTS Predator Hunters. On August 2, 23-year-old Christopher Cox of Vandalia was arrested at the Highland Walmart. According to records from the Fayette County courthouse, Cox was arrested for felony grooming after he allegedly used Facebook Messenger to send sexually explicit pictures and messages to seduce a person he believed to be a child, and that he went to the Walmart store to meet that child to commit criminal sexual abuse.

Cox was also arrested for alleged indecent solicitation of a child with the intent of committing criminal sexual assault.
