CARBONDALE — A Canadian Northern freight train struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say at 6 p.m., officers responded to the railroad crossing on Main Street in reference to an individual struck by a train. Officers determined the victim walked eastbound across the railroad tracks and the northbound train struck the person.

The victim is not being identified at this time pending notification of next of kin. Police continue to investigate.
