WILLIAMSON COUNTY — Williamson County’s Circuit Clerk is leaving her post to take a position at SIU.

The Williamson County Board Tuesday accepted Angie Elliott Kochan’s resignation at their meeting. Kochan is leaving to take a position at SIU according to the Southern Illinoisan. The report did not say what position Kochan is taking at SIU or when her last day as Circuit Clerk will be.

Kochan was appointed in 2015 after the office faced a major theft by three employees. Stuart Hall, who was Circuit Clerk at that time, was not implicated in any part of the incident. He resigned a short time after the employees were sentenced.

Since Kochan is a Democrat, the Williamson County Democratic Party will make a recommendation for Kochan’s replacement, who must also be a Democrat.
