MARION COUNTY — Two more juvenile defendants have entered guilty pleas in Marion County court to aggravated battery in connection with the daylight beating in August of a 15-year-old juvenile boy on a Centralia street.
The two 17-year-olds join two other juveniles who previously pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of the boy who suffered permanent brain damage from the beating.
The four juvenile defendants have been sentenced to five years probation each and given credit for time served in juvenile detention since their arrests about two months ago.
They are prohibited from having contact with the victim or his family and will have to provide a statement to Centralia Police on what happened the night of the beating incident near the intersection of Lincoln and Haussler.
Two of the juveniles who do not live in Centralia were ordered to stay out of the city.
The victim has been discharged from a St. Louis Hospital where he underwent lengthy treatment and rehabilitation.
A 48-year-old Centralia man charged in connection with participating in the beating is scheduled for a November 12 jury trial on two counts aggravated battery.
Christopher James is currently being held in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a Clinton County conviction for felony domestic battery.
Due to that conviction, James could face an extended term of up to ten years in prison if found guilty on the Marion County charges.
