BENTON — The Benton City Council is set to discuss and possibly act on approving optional participation by members of an elected governing body into the Illinois Municipal Retirement System when it meets Tuesday night at 6 at City Hall. The meeting would normally be held on Monday, but was moved due to Veterans Day.

The council is also expected to approve amending the resolution for the sewer surcharge and a resolution restricting funds for the wastewater treatment plant debt reduction and infrastructure.

In other business, the council will discuss and possibly approve an ordinance for Leachate, a contract with Perry Ridge Landfill, the purchase of real property at 202 East Main, amending the time for the Dec. 23 City Council meeting, potential litigation concerning the opioid epidemic, approving office hours at City Hall to run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch, approve a proclamation for National Apprenticeship Awareness and Appreciation Week and hear a presentation from Reg Ankrom from SIMEC concerning electric aggregation.

The meeting is open to the public.
