CENTRALIA — A 17-year-old juvenile male on probation stemming from the Jaden Krauss death was arrested Friday morning by Centralia police for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to Police Chief Greg Dodson, CPD received information Thursday that a juvenile male had posted a video of himself on SnapChat showing him smoking what police suspect was cannabis and displaying a firearm.
Officers were able to identify the juvenile in the video and at 10:30 a.m. Friday they arrived at 103 South Pine to arrest the teen. Dodson says that as officers arrived the juvenile suspect attempted to dispose of the weapon by throwing it out an upstairs window into the backyard.
Dodson says the weapon, a loaded semi-automatic pistol, is not the missing handgun used to shoot and kill Jaden Krauss in an upstairs bedroom of that house in May.
The teen was convicted earlier this year of obstruction in the Krauss case and was sentenced to 30 days in juvenile detention. His mother was also convicted in Marion County Court for obstruction in that case and was sentenced to 30 months probation.
According to Dodson, the teen’s mother, Nicole Kirgan, was taken into custody Friday for questioning. A younger female child was taken into protective custody and the Department of Children and Family Services was notified.
