MT. VERNON, IL — The City of Mt. Vernon suspended the rules so that instead of a first reading, the council could vote and pass an ordinance amending a sign code that would help speed up the process for the new Love’s Truck Stop to begin construction.

Mayor John Lewis says the ordinance is just one less thing in the way of Love’s coming to town.

The location of the truck stop and sign will be on the North West corner of route 37 and I-64 south of Mt. Vernon. Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna says they hope to break ground sometime in 2020.
