MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon City Council met for their second scheduled meeting of the month Monday night at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building in Veteran’s Park.

Lori Ulrich, Census Liaison for the city gave an update on where we sit with our count.

Based on trends over the past decade Mt. Vernon should see an estimated population of around 14,700 and the county somewhere near 37,700 people. That would only be a 3% loss in population instead of 40%, which is where the numbers sit right now.

Councilman Donte Moore echoed Ulrich’s message of the importance when it comes to community services and being counted.

Moore says the council is working on a plan for computers to be available at the Rolland Lewis building on August 8th for those seeking assistance in filling out their census.

You can take 10 minutes to be counted at my2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020.
