EQUALITY, IL — Two Harrisburg men were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Gallatin County.

According to Illinois State Police, 26-year-old Thomas Pyle of Equality was driving a 2010 black Lincoln sedan north on Ty Williams Drive near Calhoun Street in Equality around 12:50 a.m. when he said a deer ran into the roadway causing him to swerve to avoid striking the deer. Pyle then left the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

Pyle was not injured. His passengers, 23-year-old Trevor Fulk of Harrisburg was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, and 30-year-old Wendell Burger of Harrisburg was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Pyle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving on the wrong side of the road.
