ALTAMONT, IL — A 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Friday in Jefferson County Court to 10-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a reduced meth-related charge. Blake Miller was originally charged with Class X felony delivery of between 15-100 grams of methamphetamine for which he could have been sentenced to 30-years in prison.

The jury trial setting on the Class X charge had been confirmed in court Thursday but Miller returned to court Friday to plead guilty to the reduced Class 1 charge and the 10-year prison sentence. Once his prison term is completed he’ll have to serve two years mandatory supervised release.

Miller was arrested in February at a Mt. Vernon hotel in connection with the stabbing of two women at a motel in Altamont. Victoria Rhodes, 27, was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of her injuries. Her sister, 35-year-old Natasha Rhodes, of Farina, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries she reportedly suffered in the same incident. When Miller was located at the Mt. Vernon hotel he was taken into custody on an Effingham County warrant stemming from the double-stabbings in Altamont. However, detectives reportedly found a large quantity of meth, heroin, and fentanyl in open view in the room. They applied for and received a search warrant for the room and Miller was additionally charged in Jefferson County.

The only person who was ultimately charged in connection with the double-stabbing was 37-year-old Kristina Anderson, of Bonnie. Her case remains outstanding.
