CARBONDALE, IL — A Chicago man has been charged in connection with an early Friday morning incident at the Carbondale Amtrak station on South Illinois Avenue.
According to Carbondale Police, officers went to the station around 2:45 a.m. in reference to a report of a man threatening people with a knife after he was removed from the train by Amtrak employees. Officers located the suspect, later identified as 80-year-old Charles Pearson of Chicago, armed with a knife. Pearson attempted to get back on the train. Pearson complied with officers when they ordered him to drop the knife. Pearson was placed in custody without further incident. After conferring with the Jackson County States Attorney’s office, Pearson was charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Pearson was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
