MT. VERNON, IL — A 36-year-old Mt. Vernon man was charged Wednesday in Jefferson County Court with two counts home invasion stemming from an incident early Tuesday morning on Salem Road in Mt. Vernon.
James Litteral was charged with two Class X felonies for home invasion causing injury and misdemeanor resisting a police.
According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a female screaming for help at residence in 900 block of Salem Road.
Officers say upon their arrival, they saw Litteral at the residence with blood on his clothing and when he saw them, he fled on foot.
Officers initiated a pursuit of Litteral and were able to take him into custody a few blocks away.
According to reports, Litteral forced his way into the Salem Road residence through a locked door.
Once inside he allegedly attacked two people resulting in one of the victims being transported to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Litteral was transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains.
