Harold O. Nixon, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:10 pm January 13, 2023 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor.

He was born October 4, 1930 in Barn Hill, Illinois to the late William and Daisy Nixon. Harold married Erma Jolene (Rose) Nixon on January 18, 1952 in Piggott, Arkansas. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on March 15, 2018.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Lynn Manion and husband, Jim of Mount Vernon; sons, Terry Nixon and wife, Kathy of Kissimmee, Florida and Larry Nixon and wife, Bea of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Arcena  Thomas and husband, Brett of Kissimmee, Florida, Travis Nixon and wife, Casey of Wedgefield, Florida, Mandy Taylor and husband, Rick of Tamaroa, Illinois, Michael Nixon and wife, Martha of Mount Vernon, Riki Jenkins and husband, Mitchell of Troy, Illinois, Eric Manion and wife, Jennifer of Louisville, Illinois, and Jessica Manion and fiancé, Jake of Manchester, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Sophie Thomas, Violet Thomas, Rylee Manion, Myla Manion, Bailey Taylor, Cole Taylor, Conor Nixon, Kaden Nixon, Carter Nixon, Stella Jenkins, and Finn Jenkins; great-great-granddaughter, Everly; sister, Jane Lampp of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and beloved wife,

Harold was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jayma Nicole Manion; and five brothers and one infant sister.

Harold worked as a truck driver for many years. When he was younger, Harold enjoyed water skiing. In his adult years, he enjoyed camping with his family. Harold cherished the times he shared with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #141. Inurnment will follow. Memorials may be made in Harold’s honor to American Cancer Society.
