CLINTON COUNTY — A 38-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced in Clinton County Court on charges stemming from an incident in which he fired a shot at a Wamac police officer.
According to Clinton County State’s Attorney J.D. Brandmeyer, Ian Merideth pleaded guilty last year to Class X felony Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Class 2 felony Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Then last week Merideth was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm conviction and 14 years in IDOC on the Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon conviction.
Merideth will be required to serve an additional period of 18 months of Mandatory Supervised Release and 1-year Mandatory Supervised Release for each conviction, respectively, after he is released from prison. He will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Additionally, Merideth pled guilty to one count of Class 1 felony Residential and was sentenced to 15 years in IDOC and another two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of Class 3 felony Aggravated Battery.
Merideth will be required to serve this sentence consecutively with the Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon conviction.
He’s currently serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison on multiple weapons charges. The state charges will be served concurrently with Merideth’s federal sentence.
