MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested a 56-year-old Georgia man early Monday morning on a Jefferson County warrant stemming from an investigation more than a decade ago.

According to police reports, a patrol officer stopped Wayne Brown at 24th and College after noticing him using a cell phone while driving. During the traffic stop, it was discovered Brown was wanted on an outstanding Jefferson County warrant with bond set at $50,000.

The warrant stems from a 2011 case charging Brown with three Class 1 felony counts of possessing narcotics near a public school or park.

A bill of indictment in the case was handed down in May of 2011 following an investigation by the Mt. Vernon Police Department was handed over to prosecutors. Brown had never been arrested in the case.
