JEFFERSON COUNTY — An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested over the weekend when he reportedly stabbed his girlfriend multiple times.

Bobby J.D. Berner was formally charged Tuesday in Jefferson County Court with three counts Class 3 felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Blaine Uhls, early Saturday morning, sheriff’s deputies and Mt. Vernon police officers responded to the area of North 11th and George Streets in Mt. Vernon, on a report of a fight in progress, involving weapons.

Upon arrival, they located multiple subjects, two of whom had apparent stab wounds. The fighting had already stopped upon arrival and an investigation ensued.

The initial fight was reportedly between Berner’s girlfriend and his mother and he intervened when the girlfriend was on top of his mom. Berner was arrested for stabbing the two people and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail on four felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The investigation into the remaining aspects of the incident is ongoing.
