MARION COUNTY — Just days before being sworn in as Kinmundy’s new police chief, Joe Duffy was involved in an on-duty car crash as a Wamac Police Officer.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the crash report for the September 10 incident isn’t yet finalized, as they’re waiting for insurance information from the Wamac Police Department.

However, preliminary reports indicate around 11:38 a.m. Sunday, September 10, Duffy was involved in a crash with 76-year-old Connie Worley of Centralia.

Duffy was driving a Wamac vehicle at the time of the crash at McCord and Poplar in Centralia. No injuries were reported.

Wamac Police Chief Steve Prather said the investigation was handed over to the sheriff’s office, as his department couldn’t conduct an investigation into itself and they work too closely with Centralia police for them to investigate the incident.

Duffy worked for the Wamac department since 2014.
