WALTONVILLE, Ill. — A Wednesday morning fire near Waltonville has claimed a second life.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the victim who was airlifted from the scene Wednesday succumbed to their injuries overnight.

The first victim died at the scene of the fire Wednesday morning on Vermont Lane. An autopsy has been scheduled for sometime today.

While the names of the victims are being withheld at this time, it has been revealed that one was a man and the other a woman.

Numerous area fire departments and emergency personnel responded to the Jefferson County home. The call reported entrapment in the home with flames through the roof.

The Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.
