WASHINGTON COUNTY — A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy and his K-9 partner are being hailed for a Wednesday morning traffic stop on Interstate 64 that resulted in the seizure of hundreds of pounds of drugs.
According to Sheriff Ross Schultze, around 10:30 Wednesday morning, Deputy Howard and his K-9 partner Luna conducted a traffic stop on eastbound I-64 around the 40 mile marker.
Deputy Howard had his partner conduct a vehicle sniff and Luna alerted on the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle being searched.
The search reportedly resulted in 160 pounds of cannabis, 12 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, and 59 pounds of THC cartridges and edibles being discovered and seized. The street value of those items, says the sheriff’s department, is around $500,000.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail on charges of Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Trafficking Marijuana, and Possession of Marijuana greater than 500 grams.
While the sheriff’s office didn’t release the name of the driver, their jail logs do show a 43-year-old man being booked Wednesday on similar charges.
