ALTAMONT, Ill. — Effingham County officials are reporting a man’s body was recovered from an Altamont area pond Sunday night.

According to reports the Effingham Dive Rescue Team was called just before 7 p.m. to assist the Altamont Police Department with recovering the body, located in a pond just south of Interstate 70 in the 100 block of the frontage road.

A passerby reportedly located the body in the pond then contacted police and led them to the location.

The Dive Rescue Team, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Effingham County Coroner’s Office assisted Altamont with the initial investigation and recovery of the body. The Dive Rescue Team spent approximately three hours on scene.
