MOUNT VERNON — Mt. Vernon police arrested a juvenile early Thursday morning in connection with a series of attempted break-ins to area smoke shops.

According to police reports, around 11:44 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to an alarm at Thrive Dispensary on South 45th Street where they discovered damage to a door.

Then just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday officers responded to an alarm at Smoke Smart on South 27th Street where they also discovered damage to a door.

Officers were able to obtain video footage and obtain a description of the suspect. And a short time later an officer observed a subject matching the description of the suspect walking from CBD Wellness Center at 3300 Broadway, where damage was later found.

The suspect began running from the officer then got onto a bicycle and fled from officers. The suspect later got off the bicycle and began running on foot through a residential area where officers pursued him. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.

The suspect was a juvenile on probation for previous crimes and out past the court-mandated curfew. The juvenile was connected to the three attempted burglaries at the business and charged with attempted burglary and resisting.

The juvenile was detained at a juvenile detention center. Due to the offender being a juvenile, the name or photos of the offender will not be released.
