MARION COUNTY, IL — A Salem man was sentenced Wednesday in Marion County Court to a five-year prison term for crimes dating back to 2021 and up until 2023 across multiple southern Illinois counties.
25-year-old Tristan Rankin entered a plea deal admitting to a June 2023 incident involving unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. Charges from November of 2021 for felony retail theft and unlawful possession of a separate stolen vehicle in February of 2023 were both dropped as part of the plea deal. Rankin also admitted to the December 2021 burglary of a building in the 2800 block of South Route 37 near Salem.
Rankin had already received 19+ combined years for different crimes committed in Jefferson, Clinton, Clay, Effingham, and Washington Counties. He will get credit for 482 days already served in the Marion County Jail and was ordered to pay just under $7,000 in fines and restitution.
Rankin was also ordered to complete one year of mandatory supervised release when he is released from prison.
