David Lee Mitchell, 79, of Woodlawn, Illinois passed away at 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at home. He was born on June 21, 1945 to the late Donald and Wanda Mitchell of Mount Vernon, Illinois. David married Barbara L. Etheridge on June 28, 1964. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2024.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara Mitchell; daughter, Angela L. Barney and her husband, Alfredo Barney; daughter-in-law, Tammy Phillips; brother, Darrell Mitchell and his wife, Sheila; sister, Debbie King and her husband, JR; sister, Dianna Wheeler and her husband, Bob; sister, Denise Strothmann and her husband, Kris; brother-in-law, David Etheridge and his wife, Ginger; grandchildren, Tiffany, David, Jessica, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Haven, Rilie, Skyler, Lennon, and Maddox; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Brian Mitchell and his granddaughter, Shelby Mitchell.

David was a faithful member of Old Union Baptist Church for 61 years and during that time he served as a song leader, deacon, treasure, and trustee. David’s greatest joy was taking walks with his beautiful wife and then sitting together out side by the lake enjoying the beauty of God’s creation and giving thanks in God’s provision.

A private family service will be held. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to Old Union Baptist Church.
