Dale L. Whitney, age 90 of Salem, passed away at his home on Monday, April 14, 2025, the day after celebrating his 68th wedding anniversary. He was surrounded by his wife and family.

Dale was born on February 10, 1935 in Omega, Illinois the son of Roy and Thelma (Monical) Whitney. He married Betty Prather on April 13, 1957 in Corinth, Mississippi.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Steve Whitney and wife Andrea of Salem; daughter, Cindy Williams and husband Joel of Iuka; grandchildren, Stacy Collier and significant other Jay Poston, Eric Bobbett and wife Tierra, and Amanda Whitney; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Tristan, Peyton, Rylen, Brett, Patrick, Hunter, and Eric Jr.; great-great-grandchildren, Keegan, Khloe, and Saylah Rae; brother, Charles Whitney; and sisters, Shirley Jahraus, Vicki Ingram and husband Bob, Patricia McClain and husband Joe, Beverly Wodtka and husband Bob, and Brenda Weeks.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Whitney; father and step-mother, Roy and Letha Whitney; brother, Gale Whitney; and sister, Mimi Lee Shaw.

Dale was a member of Brown Christian Church. He worked for F.S. as a delivery driver and went on to work for World Color Press until his retirement. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and attending country Opry’s. Dale loved spending time with his grandkids, working in the yard and was always able to accomplish any task or project that needed done at home.

A private graveside service will be held at Parker Cemetery in Xenia, Illinois. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
